Keep Cool in this Heat Wave!

This week has been HOT…at least 100 degrees outside!  Summer time heat is the perfect excuse to pull out the hose, squirt guns, spray bottles, water balloons, etc. –BASICALLY, anything that can shoot out water!  When it comes to water play, the rules to remember are 1) the wetter, the better, 2) learn and experiment 3) have fun! Here are some fun ways to play with water:

1.  Toy Car Wash – Set up a car wash station and pull out the hose, sponges, buckets and soap, tear-free baby soap and get washing, really! Let the kids have fun washing their cars and playing with water!

2.  Sprinkler Run! – The thing to do for summer fun.  Get the swimsuits on and the hose and sprinkler out.  Running through the sprinkler is simple, but so much fun!

3.  H2O Balloon Toss – Partner up and toss the water balloon!  Each time a balloon is tossed and caught, the catcher takes one step backwards.  See how far they can get!  When it’s dropped, grab another water balloon and try again and again! (Don’t we “want” to loose in this summer heat and get wet? hehe)

4.  Ice Eggs – Make these ginormous Ice Eggs that I absolutely love from A Little Learning for Two.  Wouldn’t it be so fun to toss them around and wait for the ice to melt?!  How about ice bowling?!  Or even trying to smash it into itty bitty pieces?!

5.  Water Pinata – Hang a full water balloon from a tree branch and let the kids swing away, blindfolded (supervised, of course). Even though no candy will spill down, it’ll sure to bring out squeals and giggles as the water splish splashes the crowd!

6.  Sponge Pass – Have all the kiddies sitting in a line facing forward. At the front, place a bucket full of water with a large sponge.  DIY Sponge Ball here. At the back of the line place an empty bucket. The object of the game is to get as much of the water from the front bucket to the back. The team must pass the sponge over their heads to the person behind them. When it reaches the back, the last person must squeeze the water over their head and into the bucket, then pass the sponge back to the front.  A fun race for the kids and a way for everyone to get a splash of water!

7.  Frozen T-Shirt Contest– This is a fun game for ALL ages!  Use t-shirts you have around the house, try to have them all the same size.  Soak them, saturate them, then fold them, Or crunch them in a ball. Whatever you choose to do, make sure they are all the same.  Then place in one gallon plastic zip locs and freeze.  Keep them rock solid until ready to play! Make up your own rules!  The object is to be the first person to thaw out the t-shirt and wear it…an entertaining and hilarious game for adults and kids!

Who knew playing with water can be so much fun?  Let the water games begin!

Stay Cool and Hydrated!

love,
