A Kids Memorial Day

Memorial Day is here!

Memorial Day

This was Jackson last year on Memorial Day! I can’t believe a year has past since I took this photo =)

So, what does Memorial Day mean to you? Yes, it entails a long 3-day weekend for most working people. It’s also associated with BBQ’s and family gatherings. But let’s also not forget the true meaning of Memorial Day.

It is a national holiday honoring members of the United States Armed Forces who have died in war or while otherwise serving their country.

So when you’re out at the beach, hanging out with friends, hiking up a trail, or swimming in the backyard.. take a second to commemorate those brave soldiers who put their lives on the line day in and day out so that we can cherish these moments. Thank you all.

If you haven’t made plans this weekend, I’ve compiled a list of kid-friendly, family activities that you can do this weekend:

1) Go to the beach. Enjoy the beautiful weather with a cool breeze.

2) Host a picnic or BBQ. Invite your friends and their kids as well!

3) Swim in your backyard (or someone else’s!). Is it time to teach your child how to swim? Splish, splash, this weekend would be a great time to start.

4) Walk the malls. Yes, it will be crowded… but you know what, something might catch your eye. And, it’s on sale!

5) Grab an old fashioned scoop of ice cream in a cone. Let the kids have fun with the toppings… sit and enjoy =) Life is good.

6) Do overdue household chores with your kids. This can be anything from doing the laundry to planting seeds in the garden. Your child will enjoy spending time with you, while you get to check off items from your honeydew list (Honey DO List).

8)Rent a movie. Is there a movie rental store nearby? A blockbuster? Let your child walk the aisles and choose a movie to watch.

9) Go to the park. I miss the days when I can play on the swing-set, hang from the monkey bars, and go down a slide.

10) Do nothing! Blasphemy! No, I know it’s a long weekend but sometimes, you just need some old fashion R and R.

Last year we had a BBQ, and this year, we have decided to keep the tradition going! New pictures next week.
