Korean BBQ – Family Friendly Restaurant

During Memorial Weekend, we had dinner with our relatives who live in the OC.  They’ve been wanting to take us to Gen Korean BBQ and Yakitori Bar — a All-You-Can-Eat Korean BBQ restaurant where the quality of meat is very good.  Because they’re so popular and it’s all you can eat with a 2 hour time limit, the restaurant doesn’t take reservations!  My aunt had to go line up at 4:30 to make sure my family of 16 would be seated by 6:30.  Yes, a TWO hour wait.

When we finally got seated, the ambiance and service was amazing.  I felt like I was having dinner in a lounge setting!  Anyways, during dinner I realized how family friendly Korean BBQ is.  It’s a great place for large families to be loud (and babies to cry) without disturbing anyone and the experience is so fun!  During dinner, Jackson had such a great time helping everyone grill the meat, he even forgot to eat himself!  If you’re in the OC or LA area, check out Gen Korean BBQ in Tustin — you will not regret it!

Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Weekend is over…back to reality.  I hope everyone had a good long weekend though!  I attended my friend’s beautiful wedding in Orange County while Jackson had a fun weekend filled with lots of daddy and Riley time since their mommy was away in San Francisco for a bachelorette party.

My brother-in-law and I wanted to take advantage of this extra long weekend and take Jackson to the beach to get some sun in yesterday.  All my LA-ers…wasn’t yesterday the PERFECT beach day!?  It wasn’t too hot or too windy and I got the perfect tan!  We went to Zuma Beach in Malibu where Jackson got to run in the water, build sand castles, play with the sand crabs, and toss the football around.  After that, we went to Reel Inn Seafood restaurant where I had the BEST shrimp tacos ever!  It’s a must try!

Here’s a video of Jackson saying hi to his mommy before heading to the beach!

Here’s some ear candy for you guys!  Jackson is big ball of energy!  Even after the beach, he had enough power to sing his heart out to Justin Bieber.  Jackson requested to ONLY listen to J.Bieb songs for the ENTIRE car ride.  But hey, I’m not complaining!

I hope you enjoyed the pictures!  I can’t wait for the next long weekend again!

A Kids Memorial Day

Memorial Day is here!

Memorial Day

This was Jackson last year on Memorial Day! I can’t believe a year has past since I took this photo =)

So, what does Memorial Day mean to you? Yes, it entails a long 3-day weekend for most working people. It’s also associated with BBQ’s and family gatherings. But let’s also not forget the true meaning of Memorial Day.

It is a national holiday honoring members of the United States Armed Forces who have died in war or while otherwise serving their country.

So when you’re out at the beach, hanging out with friends, hiking up a trail, or swimming in the backyard.. take a second to commemorate those brave soldiers who put their lives on the line day in and day out so that we can cherish these moments. Thank you all.

If you haven’t made plans this weekend, I’ve compiled a list of kid-friendly, family activities that you can do this weekend:

Toyko Wako – Family Friendly Restaurant

Here is a continuous post from yesterday of another great family AND kid-friendly restaurant.  Jackson wanted to celebrate his birthday at Tokyo Wako which their known for the Teppanyaki.  This type of cuisine is great because it’s nice for celebrations, one table can fit a large family, the food is delicious and accommodates everyone (they even have a kid’s section on the menu!), and everyone just loves to watch the chef cook.

If you’ve never heard what Teppanyaki is, it’s a style of Japanese cuisine that uses an iron griddle to cook food in front of guests which is really entertaining, especially for kids.  I love the onion volcano fire and when they do little tricks here and there like tossing shrimp tails and catching it in their hat!

Turn your attention to Jackson’s face!  He looks scared, but he’s actually really excited.

For birthdays, they make the birthday girl/boy dress up as a Geisha or a Sumo Wrestler.  Jackson didn’t want to wear it so daddy stepped in and wore it for him!

Do you have a Teppanyaki restaurant where you live?  Try having your next family celebration there!

Have a Happy Friday and a good extra long weekend!

The Melting Pot – Family Friendly Restaurant

Thinking of restaurants to dine at for a birthday or celebration is always hard for my family.  The top 3 questions we always, ALWAYS have to think about is:

1.  Is it too late to make reservations for a party of 10?

2.  How far is it?

3.  MOST IMPORTANTLY, is it good for the kids?

With that, we always have to pick a restaurant that accommodates my large family, somewhere in Pasadena, and that is family AND kid-friendly!  There are plenty of restaurants out there, but when we dine out for “special” occasions, one restaurant that works – The Melting Pot Fondue Restaurant!
